From securing systems and transforming payments to reimagining how an entire country works. Dr. Nicodemos Damianou shares the journey that took him from technology and fintech leadership to the challenge of building a smarter, more innovative and digital Cyprus.

Dr Nicodemos Damianou is the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of the Republic of Cyprus.

He holds a Sc.B. degree in Computer Science from Brown University in the United States of America, a Ph.D. in Computer Systems and Security Management of Large Enterprise Networks from Imperial College London, a DIC (Diploma of Information Security) from Imperial College, and an MBA from the University of Cyprus.

He is an information technology and information security professional with extensive experience in Payment Systems and Fintech, Risk Management Methodologies, and Digital Transformation Technologies.

He previously served as an executive at Bank of Cyprus, while from November 2017 until January 2024, he served as Chief Executive Officer of JCC Payment Systems Ltd.
